Night Guards

Many people are afflicted with teeth grinding (bruxism). Some people may do this consciously during the day, but it can also occur at night while sleeping. Grinding your teeth can damage enamel, wear down teeth, cause jaw pain, or irritate your gums. The noise from teeth grinding can also disturb your spouse's sleep if loud enough.

If you grind your teeth, you should consider having a nightguard made. The nightguard, which is very similar to a mouthguard worn by athletes, provides a barrier between your top and bottom teeth to protect tooth structure. It is also custom-fitted to your bite so that, when you grind, the forces of your bite are distributed in such a way that stresses are taken off of key muscles in your face. This helps to relieve some of the discomfort people tend to have as a result of bruxism.

All nightguards are custom-fitted for comfort and proper breathing. Your dentist takes an impression of your teeth, and the impression is sent to the lab for fabrication of the nightguard.

If we make a nightguard to fit on your lower teeth, this would allow you to also wear it during the day in the event that you grind and/or clench then as well.
